This is a 2.46% increase from the August 2009 deposit, which ends the 16-month streak of declining sales tax collections. This may be the first indication that the Ada area economy is slowly improving. 

The July 2010 deposit was $1,159,683, which closed out FY 09/10. The City of Ada sales tax collections were down 5% for the fiscal year. Miscellaneous Retail (4.1%) and Automotive Service Stations (4.5%) were the only two sectors with positive growth during the fiscal year. The two sectors with the largest decline were Hotel and Lodging (-23.5%) and Wholesale Trade (-13.7%).

In the state of Oklahoma, Pontotoc County has the 5th lowest unemployment rate for labor forces greater than 10,000 in size. 
The State unemployment rate was 7.1% and increased from 6.9% in May. The national rate for June was 9.6%, which is an increase from 9.3% in May. Pontotoc County continues to remain significantly below the state and national rates. Pontotoc County has also remained one of the lowest unemployment rates in the Southeastern quadrant of the state.
